Obituary

Jerry Spencer, 78, of Salisbury, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Nov 29, 2017 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.  Jerry was born Oct. 29, 1939 in Hickory to the late Ralph and Violet (Hunt) Spencer.  He graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1958 and Lenoir Rhyne College in 1967.

He served as a Radio Traffic Analyst in the United States Air Force Security Service from 1958 to 1962 {and was among the earliest members of KAS 60-61}.  He worked as a Radio Announcer for WIRC and WHKY in Hickory, as well as {for KTUS} during his time in the Air Force.  Jerry retired from a career as a Pharmaceutical Salesman for Wyeth Laboratories and was one of the leading salesmen in his region for over 30 years, winning numerous awards.

On March 12, 1965, he married Linda Ann Hunsucker in Conover, and together they had three children.  Jerry was a lifelong Christian and devoted himself to serving his church and family.  He had a love of music and singing and part of the St. John’s Men’s Chorus in Salisbury.  He enjoyed nature and spending time in the outdoors, hiking and gardening.  He also enjoyed reading and spending time with his children and granddaughter.  To Jerry, his greatest accomplishment in life was raising his three children to love and serve the Lord and live a Christian life.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a sister, Vonda Poovey of Hickory.  Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda Spencer of Salisbury; two sons, Shawn Lane Spencer and Shane Lee Spencer, both of Lexington; daughter, Leah (Spencer) Penninger and husband William of Leland; and granddaughter, Elli Josephine Penninger.  He is also survived by sisters, Miriam Queen of Hickory and Paulette Evans and husband Larry of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
