LIFE AFTER KARAMURSEL
After spending my 18 months on Baker flight as a 292XX, I was transferred to Robins AFB, Georgia and cross-trained in the 702XX field. There, I worked in the Provost Marshall’s office in the Policy area, doing as little as I could. I was re-introduced to civilian life there since most base employees were civilian. My workday was shorter then than it is today.
I was discharged in 1963 (still only had the A/2Cstripes I received after finishing Morse Intercept School) and went back home to Tallahassee Fl. Where I worked with the local telephone company for a while splicing cable. I met a young lady during this time that would, in May 1964, become my wife. I worked a year or so with a moving company, then moved on to a gas company to keep their books. After a couple of years, I found a job with State government, worked in various areas of government and now manage the general accounting system for the Fl Dept of Revenue. I’ll retire from there in July 2003.
In the mid 60’s, my wife and I, along with my sister, brother-in-law and nephew, formed a southern gospel quartet and spent our weekends traveling and singing in the southeast for about 9 years. This was a great time of visiting in many different kinds of churches and forming lots of friendships that endure until today. During that time we made two record albums.
We disbanded in 1977 to concentrate on raising our kids but still get together to sing on special occasions. Janie (my wife) and I have been married 37 years now (2001) and have two sons and one daughter, one granddaughter, 12, and one grandson, 9 months. We both enjoy working in the yard with plants and flowers, and I have a small vegetable garden. We enjoy traveling on back roads, through small towns, and investigating all garage sales, junk/antique shops and thrift stores. And of course, we love Florida State football, though it’s too hot to go to the stadium anymore. We take an active part in the First Church of the Open Bible where I teach adults each Sunday.
