Red was a craftsman at his trade.  He was a linguist, an airborne mission supervisor, and a great manager who taught his people thebusiness.  It was Red who managed the airborne modernization program.  He was also chief of a special test team consisting of 23 hand-picked USAFSS technicians.  Red Haire flew 605 combat sorties in support of the Vietnam war, earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 29 Oak Leaf clusters.  He flew 12,000 combat flying nours.
