" My Life after Karamursel, Dick Ruediger" (Aug 59/Feb61)

After 18 months of copying code and working direction finding for the lustrous DOG Flight, I shipped out to Shaw AFB in South Carolina. . I was assigned to an Air Police Squadron and handled all traffic tickets and traffic accidents on the base. I became very popular when someone wanted a ticket fixed.

I was discharged on 1 Oct 1962 and went to work for AVCO Corp, which was sold to Textron Corp.  Later (2002) some of the smaller divisions of Textron were sold and I was fortunate to be working in one of the small divisions when it was sold and I was at the age of 65 so I stated collecting my full retirement from Textron and signed on to collect Social Security also. I continued and still am working for the new owner on a part time basis so I could benefit from the health insurance he had to offer. The claim to fame for AVCO, Textron and Specialty Materials Division the company I presently work for is we developed and installed the heat shield material that went on all the Apollo space capsules and made may parts including heat shield material that went on all the space shuttles. I'm now in a high temperature, high strength metals group and we're developing new material for military aircraft, sporting goods, etc.

I've been married twice. I have two children and 3 grandchildren from my first marriage, and two stepchildren and 4 grandchildren from my second marriage. My wife Gladys and I live in Methuen Massachusetts.    For many years after my AF life I was a avid snow skier and participated in bowling leagues. I played softball in the industrial league for 35 years. Quit at 60 years old.   I haven't tried golf yet.

I really enjoy being a member of the Karamursel 60-61 group and I hope it continues forever. In my eyes this is the greatest group of guys ever formed.  If you haven’t attended a reunion yet, you ought to try one.
